Trilingual Child

Laila knows how to count from 1-10 in English, Spanish and French. We were actually able to catch a pretty good rendition of it on video, although in the French section she left out 6 and 7.  She's only 20 months old, so we'll let it slide :)

In other news, no baby #2 yet.  My doctor got me all excited that she would probably come early, so we flew my mom out a week ahead of schedule and we've got nothing to show for it.  I'm still a week away from my due date but more than anxious to not be pregnant anymore and to meet our precious new little girl and see her tiny little face! I was about 2cm dilated and 70% effaced and her head was very low at my appointment last Monday so she's definitely working on making her debut, but I guess she's not quite ready yet.

San Diego Zoo

We decided it was important to take Laila on one last big adventure as an only child, so we headed down to the San Diego Zoo today.  Despite the weather report, it ended up being a perfect day to be at the zoo, and we had an absolute blast.  The monkeys were a clear favorite for Laila but she loved seeing the giraffes, elephants and kangaroos too. Daddy even bought her a pet giraffe on our way out - Laila wanted to name it Hippo (which I thought was awesome), but Daddy decided her name would be Amiga. We weren't sure if Laila would really be old enough to enjoy herself and understand everything that she would be seeing, but she really was. She loved running around and seeing all of the different animals and kept saying "more animals" every time we would leave an exhibit to find another one.  The rest of this post is picture heavy, but that's what happens when you have an awesome camera with a huge zoom lens :)

blog inappropriate?

Here's the 38 week comparison between Laila (left) and Juliet (right). Not too different!

Pool Time

When the forecast for the week looks like this...what is a mother to do other than run to Target and buy her daughter new bathing suits, pool toys, pool shoes, a sun hat and a new floatie?

This week Laila and I went to the pool near our house on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. We took Thursday off because it was a little overcast and I had a bunch of errands to run, plus it was probably good for the bug to have one day out of the sun.  Laila LOVES the pool and it has been so fun to watch how much she has progressed over the course of this week.  She started off being very hesitant about getting in the water, to not knowing how she felt about her new floatie, to allowing me to pull her in off the edge, to JUMPING off the edge, to asking to be dunked underwater, to being brave enough to allow me to let go, to floating on her back, to kicking to the side, etc.
I have been dying to get pics of her in the water but obviously when it's just me there with her I can't do that, so we were glad that daddy was able to join us at the pool today. Laila got some fun daddy time and I got to snap some photos of our little water bug!

So far we are really loving Ladera and all of the amenities the area has to offer. There are multiple parks and pools within walking distance, including a 1.5 ft deep toddler pool and a fountain/splash pad area for the kiddos.  On Wednesday I went to a Mom's group event for babies born in 2010 at the splash pads and there were probably 30+ moms there all with kids Laila's age and many of them were pregnant and due soon. I am slowly getting the chance to meet some people and make some friends. It's slow going but it's always fun to meet new people and see how you connect.

So, we've held off as long as we can.

and she doesn't know what it means to keep a secret...
we felt it was impossible to keep it under wraps any longer.
So, without further ado...
our second little girl's name is:
