80 Degrees and a Growing Bump
While I wouldn't normally post a photo of myself in a bikini...I thought it would be fun to brag to all of you East Coasters that it is 80 degrees in March and I am on my way outside to get me some sun :) And also, my little girl is growing like a weed...

We're having a DAUGHTER!
Today we had our 20 week checkup and ultrasound. We could not be more thrilled to find out that the baby is healthy and growing right on track...and the baby is a SHE! She cooperated very well with the ultrasound technician (we gave her a pep talk right before and made her promise not to cross her legs), and the technician was able to say with certainty that our baby is a female. All of her measurements checked out good and she has long bones in her arms and legs, just like her mommy and daddy :)
She was in a breeched position during the ultrasound which made it more difficult for the technician to get some of the measurements she needed, but, it was fun to see some images of her completely bent in half with her feet up by her face :) She is wiggling around and kicking and punching like crazy. It is so amazing to feel her moving around in my belly. Collin even got lucky enough to feel a really strong kick the other night!
Here is a photo from today's visit (another video may be forthcoming):

One Week!

One week from today our baby will be 20 weeks cooked...
which means we'll be at the half way point to meeting our precious one!
One week from today we will find out whether our little one is a boy or a girl!
We can't wait to find out...although you may have to.
We may keep it to ourselves for a while...just for fun :)

Remembering Dad on his Birthday
Today would have been my dad's 52nd birthday. I wanted to honor his day and be reminded of all of the great times we had in the 10 years that I knew him. Trips to New Hampshire with boating, snow mobiling, Tamarack and Fun Spot...buying me Babysitter's Club books because I read at least one a day...loving us kids and my mom so very much...
Love and miss you Dad and wish you could be here to welcome your first grand-baby into the world.

Fetal Flutterings
As of the last few days I have definitely been able to notice what I think are fetal flutterings! They are very faint and very random, but they are happening and I am beginning to recognize them as the baby's movements and not just air bubbles or whatever else is going on in there.

It's been really fun to experience that "butterfly" like feeling and it's reassuring to know that baby is moving around and doing just fine! Hopefully we will soon get to the point of real kicks and movements so Collin can join in on the fun!

Pets are Good Practice
Chloe was starting to get a bit overgrown, so we took her to the groomer today. Everything seemed fine when we got home, but about a half hour later I look over at her perched on top of our love seat and she is covered in blood. Her face, one paw, one leg...along with one of the couch pillows...just covered. I call up to Collin to come help me figure out what is wrong and as we carry her to the bathroom her paw is dripping blood.
We sat her on the counter and she was an excellent patient as we figured out the source of the bleeding, cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide and bandaged her up. We're not exactly sure what happened - they may have cut one of her nails too short or nipped her paw when trimming her.
Whatever the cause, the bleeding seemed to stop and she seems fine now. She is sleeping soundly under my desk - one of her favorite spots close to her Mama.

One thing I took away from this experience is that Collin and I are good at handling scary things. We don't panic - we listen to each other and support one another and work well together. Dogs are so similar to kids in so many ways, and having Chloe around for the last 5 years and dealing with her mini-traumas has helped prepare us (at least a little bit!) for our kids and whatever they will bring. Pets are good practice and I think we're good parents! Hopefully Chloe agrees.
