Pets are Good Practice

Chloe was starting to get a bit overgrown, so we took her to the groomer today. Everything seemed fine when we got home, but about a half hour later I look over at her perched on top of our love seat and she is covered in blood. Her face, one paw, one leg...along with one of the couch pillows...just covered. I call up to Collin to come help me figure out what is wrong and as we carry her to the bathroom her paw is dripping blood.
We sat her on the counter and she was an excellent patient as we figured out the source of the bleeding, cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide and bandaged her up. We're not exactly sure what happened - they may have cut one of her nails too short or nipped her paw when trimming her.
Whatever the cause, the bleeding seemed to stop and she seems fine now. She is sleeping soundly under my desk - one of her favorite spots close to her Mama.

One thing I took away from this experience is that Collin and I are good at handling scary things. We don't panic - we listen to each other and support one another and work well together. Dogs are so similar to kids in so many ways, and having Chloe around for the last 5 years and dealing with her mini-traumas has helped prepare us (at least a little bit!) for our kids and whatever they will bring. Pets are good practice and I think we're good parents! Hopefully Chloe agrees.

Pets ARE good practice!! They are like babies, in the way that they can't tell you what's wrong/what hurts/etc. You two will be GREAT parents. So happy for you :)

Wait until your kid goes to the emergency room with a split forehead down to the skull like Jordan! THEN you will find out how you handle stuff! This is good practice! :-)
