OC Fair

Today we went to the famous OC Fair, which runs for a month every July-August.  We really didn't know what to expect as we'd never been before, and it was beyond our imagination. The place was huge! You would easily need to go there multiple times in order to see it all, especially being on the timetable of an almost one year old. Laila did great though and had so much fun experiencing all kinds of new things.
"petting" the goats.
the biggest corn dog Laila will ever see in her life.
laila's first real ride! she loved the carousel.
daddy playing games to win laila a prize. he ended up getting her the pink and purple dolphins pictured top left. mama got a giant turkey leg and laila got to try it. because why wouldn't you carry around a giant turkey leg at a fair?

Laila's tips for eating your first popsicle

 take a lick.
 inspect what you just licked.
 see how the stick tastes.
break off the top and crush it in your other hand.
 continue eating.
drop it for a second then quickly pick back up.
devour the remaining popsicle.

(then go inside for a bath)

Laila's new buddy in town...

Lunch and Playdate

My friend Sarah decided to host a lunch for us, our kiddos and our local mamas the other day, and we had such a great time! We had yummy CPK salads, crisp, refreshing drinks and delicious desserts. The kiddos get more and more fun each time we all get together because they interact so much more as they get older. Some are walking, some are crawling, but all of them are all over the place!

Thanks so much for a fun afternoon, Sarah!

11 Months and First Steps!

Laila is 11 months old today and to celebrate she decided to take her first steps!

We don't have 11 month stats because her next pediatrician appointment is her one year, but over the last month she has learned a lot of things!
~She says da-da
~She waves, claps, hugs, dances and wiggles on command
~She gave up bottles when I stopped nursing her last week, so is exclusively on sippy cups
~She can identify family members in person and in photos
~She will point to her nose, toes, Chloe, trees, and other things when asked where they are
~She will retrieve specific items when asked, such as specific colored balls, her Elmo toy, her bath duckie, etc
~Climbs up and down stairs quickly and with ease
~I have given her the task of throwing away her dirty diapers (idea from Christen), so whenever she has a change, I put her down in front of the trash can or diaper genie, open it for her and she lifts the diaper up and puts in the trash. She is always so proud of herself. It's pretty cute.
~She walks! Well, she has taken some steps :) We'll see how quickly it transitions!

We sent out her first birthday invitations on Monday and I just can't believe it. She is going to get to celebrate with a party in MA as well as a party here so she is one lucky girl! This is her invitation for her party here. If you are in the area and want to come but didn't get an invite, feel free to come celebrate with us!

Jailhouse Rock

Laila loves to climb the stairs and often will climb both stories in a row (we have 3 floors, Collin's office is an open-air loft on the 3rd floor). She can climb them quite quickly now and has even finally learned how to back down them safely. However, a lot of the time, she will just climb the first few and then stand holding the railing bars and peek through :)
